Senior Special Situations Investment Professional
Position Overview
- We are seeking a senior investment professional to join a growing alternative investment platform with a focus on litigation finance, special situations, and law firm lending.
- The ideal candidate will combine substantial legal experience with sophisticated investment and underwriting expertise, particularly in complex, event-driven situations.
- This is a senior origination and investment role with significant responsibility for sourcing, evaluating, structuring, and executing transactions across multiple investment strategies.
- The role is well suited to an experienced former attorney who has transitioned into investing and has developed a strong track record in special situations, restructuring, bankruptcy, or related areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Source proprietary investment opportunities across litigation finance, special situations, restructuring, bankruptcy, and law firm lending.
- Underwrite and evaluate complex transactions, including legal, financial, structural, and downside considerations.
- Lead transaction structuring, diligence, negotiation, and execution.
- Develop and maintain relationships with law firms, attorneys, restructuring professionals, financial sponsors, intermediaries, and other sources of investment opportunities.
- Identify opportunities that may fit across multiple investment vehicles and strategies.
- Exercise judgment regarding investment risk, structure, legal considerations, and potential returns.
- Collaborate with investment, legal, and portfolio management teams throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Contribute to the continued development and expansion of the firm's investment strategies.
- Potentially build and manage a junior investment team, depending on the candidate's preferences and experience.
Ideal Background
The successful candidate will typically have:
- Significant experience as a lawyer and investment professional, or an equivalent combination of legal and investing experience.
- Deep expertise in special situations, restructuring, bankruptcy, distressed investing, or complex transaction structuring.
- Experience sourcing and underwriting investments rather than solely advising on transactions.
- Strong understanding of legal and structural considerations affecting complex investments.
- A demonstrated ability to originate investment opportunities and develop high-quality sourcing relationships.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and transaction execution skills.
- The judgment and seniority to independently evaluate opportunities and make investment recommendations.
- Experience in litigation finance, private credit, law firm finance, distressed credit, restructuring, or adjacent alternative investment strategies is particularly relevant.
Role Scope
The individual will have the opportunity to source and underwrite investments across several complementary strategies, including litigation finance, special situations, and law firm lending.
The platform currently has substantial capital available for deployment across these strategies, subject to each vehicle's respective investment mandate. This provides the successful candidate with flexibility to pursue opportunities across multiple channels rather than being limited to a single transaction type.
The role is intended to be entrepreneurial. Experienced candidates may have the opportunity to bring or build a junior team around their investment activities.
Compensation
Total compensation is expected to be approximately $1 million–$2 million or more, depending on experience, origination, investment performance, and the applicable combination of salary, bonus, and carried interest. The compensation structure is designed to provide meaningful participation in the growth of the relevant investment strategies, with potential for compensation to increase as the strategies scale.
Candidate Profile
- This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced investor with a differentiated combination of:
- Legal expertise + investment judgment + special situations experience + origination ability.
- Candidates should be sufficiently senior to operate independently and have meaningful investment experience, while remaining interested in actively sourcing and underwriting opportunities rather than serving solely in a senior executive or administrative capacity.
